A COLOURFUL spectacle of more than 100 of the finest and classic farm workhorses - along with their proud owners - will take to the North Cotswolds roads in aid of charity.

A vintage tractor run, organised by Moreton Show and the North Cotswold Tractor Club, promises to turn heads as it revs up for the off on Sunday May 8.

The event is the first to be organised and takes in over 50 miles of Cotswold countryside, beginning at Downs Farm, on the Batsford Estate, in Moreton at 10.30am.

As well as modern tractors, some of the vehicles taking part in the event will date back to the 1950s while others may be older.

Reaching top speeds of 15mph, the long line of colourful machines will follow a route taking in the Sezincote Estate, Todenham, Great Wolford, Barton-on-the-Heath, Chastleton, Cornwell, Kingham, Wyck Rissington and the Slaughters.

The aim of the exercise is to raise money for Moreton Show and Cancer Research UK.

Organiser, Roy Limbrick, a farmer from Sherborne, lost his wife, Sybil, to cancer in 2015 said: “I’ve lost my wife and quite a few friends to cancer. We want to get on top of this disease and support those who are working on the drugs to combat cancer.”

He added: “We hope lots of people will come out and support the Tractor Run and help in the fight against this terrible disease.”

Many of the tractors taking part can be seen later in the summer when they play a major part in the Moreton Show, on Saturday, September 3. Details of the show and where to get your tickets are at www.moretonshow.co.uk.
