CHIPPING Campden and District Rotary Club will welcome local volunteer Su Elliot to their next meeting where she will give a talk on a primary school project in Malawi.

She visits the school for a couple of months every year. The project has largely been funded by international Rotary. The talk will be held on Thursday November 26.

On November 12, Canon Dr Christopher Lamb, who has had long experience in interfaith and community relations issues, spoke about ‘The Turmoil in the Muslim world - a view from a sympathetic outsider’. He referred to the deep cultural and theological differences, which divide Muslim beliefs from those of western democratic ideals. Countries based on Islamic Sharia law see life as lived in submission to the will of Allah, whereas Western societies promote views of democracy, based largely on the wishes and needs of the citizens. The present turmoil in the Arab world is now having a massive effect on Western countries, faced with the need to deal with overwhelming numbers of refugees and subjected to periodic terrorist outrageous assaults.

Rotary welcomes new members and enquirers are always welcome at its weekly dinner at the Cotswold House Hotel on Thursday evenings at 7pm for 7.30pm. Membership is open to women and men.
