STAFF and pupils at Pebworth First School are celebrating after a double success for their outdoor and environmental work.

The school has been awarded a green flag and eco school status for the third time and has also achieved a gold award in the schools in bloom competition for the heart of England region.

Certificates for the two accolades were presented at a special celebration assembly packed with parents and children alike.

Zoe Nosworthy, head teacher, said: “Our achievement is all the greater due to being awarded our eco status and green flag within the same week as this gold award. Pebworth children can say with pride that they are great at caring for their environment.”

Tracey Lamb, school volunteer and member of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture, said: “It is wonderful to have achieved the top Royal Horticultural Society award, through schools in bloom on our second year of entry into the competition.”

Pebworth School was judged not only on the appearance and state of its environment, but also on how the grounds are developed to enhance children’s understanding and learning about the environment.
