A WELCOME to Gloucestershire sign which was caked in algae has been cleaned after the Journal pointed out it was not presenting a representative image of the Cotswolds to visitors.
The sign is in a prominent position at the top of Fish Hill, on the A44 near Broadway Tower, and was looking neglected through unsightly algal growth which made it blend into the surroundings.
There are still some smudges of green on the lower sign, but high marks for effort.
Two weeks ago we said how County Councillor Paul Hodgkinson has complained to Highways that many road signs were becoming obscured by the overgrowth of hedgerows and signs could not be seen by motorists until they were almost on top of them.
Many other road signs were green with age, difficult to spot and not doing the job they were placed there to do
Since his complaint, Cllr Hodgkinson said Highways has been out cutting back the hedges and overgrowth so many of the signs are now in full view.
