MORETON Show is on the look out for the best bakers and gardeners for the Home and Garden classes at this year’s event on Saturday, September 5.

Budding Mary Berry's can join the battle of the bakers by whisking up lemon drizzle cake, jam tarts, chocolate brownies and gingerbread men. There are scores of classes covering baking, wine, honey, jams and preserves.

Home and Garden secretary, Sarah Taylor said: "We all know how people love the ‘Great British Bake Off’ on TV so now’s the time to have a go and enter our own battle of the bakers. We’ve got lots of classes and some really great recipes. All the recipes are online and easy to follow. We’d love to see some young bakers have a go too."

In the vegetable and fruit classes, Moreton Show has a huge range of traditional show classes, including six pickling shallots, four onions, five tomatoes and six plums. Judges are also looking out for an 'unmanageable pumpkin for the kitchen' - the odder the better.

With the popularity of the TV programme ‘The Sewing Bee’, entries are growing in the handicrafts section. There are classes for shabby chic, hand-stitched pictures and cushions and a host of art competitions.

Flowers and flower arranging are always popular, with beautiful blooms competing in classes for dahlias, roses, chrysanthemums and floral displays. Titles include ‘Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush’ and ‘Masquerade’.

Young people are also encouraged to take part in Moreton Show’s children’s section, which has fun classes like potato in a pot, decorated fruit and veg and models of transport in recycled materials. There are children’s cookery and art classes and, for 2015, judges are looking out for the best head-dress or mask for a carnival.
