AN equestrian charity that gives disabled children and adults the opportunity to enjoy the thrill of horse riding has received a financial boost from Rotary.

Chipping Norton Rotary Club presented a cheque for more than £1,100 this week to the district's branch of the Riding for the Disabled Association, based at Durham's Farm, Chastleton.

The money was raised through a race night held in February and is the club's second donation to the charity in the past four years.

The cheque was handed over by Rotary Club president Simon Hamilton to Riding for the Disabled helpers Simon and Christine Welch.

"The charity is wonderful in giving disabled children and adults the chance to ride and we are delighted we have been able to help," said Mr Hamilton.

Accepting the cheque, Mr Welch said the money was gratefully received and would help towards the cost of livery of the charity's own horse, Blue, that is kept at the farm as well as a contribution towards the cost of the horses and ponies the stable provides for disabled riders.

"We are extremely grateful to the Rotary Club as we rely a lot on donations and money we manage to raise ourselves. The Riding for the Disabled Association provides a wonderful experience for people who would otherwise not have the chance to ride. When you see their faces light up when they get on a horse for the first time it proves it is so worthwhile," said Mr Welch.
