POLAR explorer Pete Milner is shedding the clampons and heading to Winchcombe where he will give an illustrated talk at the Winchcombe Walking Festival.

Pete has served with the British Antarctic Survey since 1999, successfully completing 14 seasons, including staying on during the dark and cold of winter three times. He is experienced in a variety of tasks, from leading science expeditions into the interior of the frozen continent to project leading a historic hut restoration at Port Lockroy. His biggest challenge was as winter base commander for Halley Station in 2007, with sole responsibility for the safe running of Britain's most remote polar outpost and the lives of the 18 staff staying in the total isolation of an Antarctic Winter.

Currently he is building on his operational experience and serving as an aircraft operations radio operator, dealing with air traffic operations from Punta Arenas to the South Pole.

The talk is at 8pm on Saturday May 16 at the White Hart Inn. Tickets cost £6 and may be booked at www.winchcombewalkerswelcome.com/festival
