IT was a hands-on experience for children at Temple Guiting Primary School who made a huge piece of artwork of Hugh Shampoo and his disgusting hair.

The youngsters were celebrating their new library facilities with visits and workshops from three writers and artists.

Illustrator and author Karen George helped the children bring her character to life in a recent visit. Karen, originally from Guiting Power studied art at the Royal College of Art and in 2009 won the Waterstone's competition to illustrate Julia Donaldson's book – “Wake up Lazy Lou.” She then collaborated on Julia's next book and now writes and illustrates her own books.

BBC Radio 4 playwright Alan Pollock talked to years 4, 5 and 6 about being a writer and created a lively questions and answers session.

Trelawney Kerrigan, who writes award winning plays and short films ran a workshop where the children wrote scripts based on their favourite book David Walliams’ “Ratburger” and were filmed acting out scenes.

Headteacher David Ogden said: "The children had a really exciting day. As part of our commitment for every child to thrive, we feel very lucky to be able to offer such incredible opportunities to our pupils, thanks to the support of our very generous PTA, staff and parents.”
