YOUNG chess players from Dormer House School, in Moreton, have made it through to the Mega Final in Cheltenham in May.

Sixteen children from the school competed in the opening round of the world’s largest chess tournament.

The tournament begins every Spring Term, and continues over four stages and eight months. Head teacher, Alison Thomas, said:”As the tournament has progressed, the Dormer children have been delighted to win badges and prizes. They have also learned how to lose; an important quality if you play chess.”

The Dormer chess team achieved great success with overall joint winners, Felix Partridge, Y6, and Toby Waterton, Y5, both scoring 18 points from a possible 21. They will now progress through to the The Mega Final. Joining them will be Freddie Foster, Y6, and Aled Davies, Y5, who scored 17 points, as well as Megan Hopkins,Y3, and William Abrey, Y4, who had the highest scores in Y3 and Y4 respectively.
