A FREE night on the tiles is being offered by a Scrabble club in the hope it will attract some new blood.

Pershore Scrabble Club formed around two years ago and after a healthy start, has fallen back slightly on member numbers and organisers hope to attract more.

An open evening is being held on Thursday March 5 at 6pm for people to go along to meet everyone and play a few games. The evening is free and there will be refreshments served.

The club is the only one in Worcestershire that is affiliated to the Association of British Scrabble Players.

Members cover a wide range of abilities. Beginners are welcome to join as are more seasoned players. The club meets each fortnight on a Thursday at 7pm at Fladbury Pavilion.

Organiser Yvonne McKeon said: "There has never been a better time to play this popular board game, The current world champion is British and from the north east of England. The current youth champion is English and lives in London. Scrabble has been suggested as one of the things to keep the mind healthy as we get older.

"Players of any level are welcome at the club. The only qualification needed is an enthusiasm to play and enjoy the game. It is also a good way to meet people and make new friends. We are a very friendly group."

Membership is just £5 for the year and £2 per meeting. Refreshments are provided and members try to play two games in the evening.
