TREE wardens from the Cotswolds were represented at a reception at the House of Lords to celebrate the Tree Council's 40th anniversary.

Speeches from Viscount Colville of Culross and Dan Rogerson, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for water, forestry, rural affairs and resource management, highlighted the importance of trees in the environment and the power of forests to enhance the feeling of wellbeing.

Ann Jones, co-ordinator/secretary of the Cotswold Tree Warden Group attended the reception, accompanied by Councillor Carole Topple, the Cotswold District Council Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing.

“This is the sort of high profile event which shines the spotlight on the work that tree wardens do to protect such a vital part of our heritage. It’s hard to imagine the Cotswolds without its vast array of trees, and we are committed to preserving our enviable range of specimens for future generations to enjoy." said Mrs Jones.

Councillor Topple added: “We are very fortunate to have such a dedicated group of volunteers in our district. The Cotswold tree wardens are extremely enthusiastic and knowledgeable and they continue to work in close harmony with officers at the council, maintaining an impressive variety and quality of trees. Ours is one of the most active, and praised, tree preservation groups in the country and it was a pleasure to attend the House of Lords reception and hear about achievements and plans for the future.”
