A WEEK of textile titillation is being held at Sudeley Castle and Gardens.

The venue, near Winchcombe, is celebrating wool week and visitors are invited to its exhibition of rare and valuable textiles.

A Textile Day takes place on Friday (October 10) as part of the week which runs until Sunday (October 12).

Sudeley's textiles conservator, Gaye Dopson, will give visitors an exclusive look at some of the textile collection not on display to the public.

This event includes morning refreshment, a tour, talks and afternoon cream tea.

Tickets cost £40 and can be purchased by calling 01242 602308 between 9am and 5pm from Monday to Friday.

Sian Jocelyn, visitor services manager at the Castle, said: “As many are aware, the Cotswolds was built on the wealth of the wool trade, and we want to celebrate this rich history by showcasing the best of Sudeley Castle’s wool history.

“We think history lovers will be thrilled by some of the pieces on display, particularly two Sheldon tapestries that date from the late 16th century, the designs of which are said to have influenced William Morris, and the Louis XV bedhangings, reputedly made for Marie Antoinette.

“Wool Week is a wonderful opportunity to appreciate this important fibre.

"Wool has been at the heart of the area for well over 1,000 years – even today the Castle is surrounded by sheep so we are encouraging all to come down and celebrate our great heritage.”

Wool Week is hosted by the Campaign For Wool, which was initiated by The Prince of Wales, in order to raise awareness amongst consumers about the benefits offered by the fibre.
