STUDENT nurses and midwives are being invited to apply for an annual award recognising those who have gone the extra mile.

Entry had opened for this year’s student scholarship awards run by nursing charity the Cavell Nurses’ Trust, which recognises the best and brightest student nurses and midwives in the country.

Lead midwife for education at the University of Worcester is a member of the judging panel and said the quality of applicants in last year’s awards was “outstanding”.

“It was particularly pleasing to see midwives so well represented as it is a much smaller profession compared to general nursing,” she said.

“I hope student midwives will be encouraged to apply for these wonderful opportunities.”

The winner of The Edith Cavell Leadership Award will be awarded £2,000 while the winners of the Outstanding Student Nurse, Outstanding Student Midwife, Academic Achievement Award and Community Award will each receive £1,500.

Runners up in each category will also be awarded a laptop or a tablet.

Students can apply for the award visit www.cavellnursestrust.org/scholarship-awards by Tuesday, December 9.
