CROWDS flocked to Broadway’s new Country fair and Dog Show at the weekend and enjoyed a guest appearance from two famous race horses.

More than 1,000 turned out to the event at the North Cotswold Hunt Kennels and adjoining fields on Sunday and browsed trade stands, a farmers’ market and dog competitions.

There was also the chance to meet the hound puppies, catch a glimpse of life inside a busy kennels and watch a farrier at work in the event

And horse racing fans were in for a treat when Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Denman and Welsh National Grand champion Miko de Beauch paraded around the main arena with their owners.

Hunt Secretary Gina Mills said she was thrilled with the new-style event which has been transformed from their annual Kennels Open Day and Terrier Show.

“It was the perfect mixture of old and new with skittle matches and terrier races running alongside new local businesses like Tom Sausage showcasing their delicious produce," she said.

Martin Harrell, Hayles Farm owner, said he did a roaring trade in home-made apple juice and cider.

“It was a perfect way to bring the farm down to Broadway High Street”, he said.

About £360 was raised for The Midlands Air Ambulance Service which supported the event with their popular heli-pod and helicopter bouncy castle.
