DESPITE a dreary forecast, the weather stayed fine and dry for 72 golfers who enjoyed the annual Rotary Golf Day in the Cotswolds.

Keen golfers came from far and wide turned out for the event on Monday held at Naunton Downs Golf Club, near Bourton.

Organised by North Cotswolds Rotary Club, players from Shropshire, Rugby, Tamworth, Chippenham as well as Gloucestershire and neighbouring counties enjoyed the day of golfing which raised £4,100 for charity.

Home-Start Cotswolds, James Hopkins Trust, and Read Easy, based in Stow and Moreton, each received a cheque for £1,000, with the rest given to other Rotary good causes.

Rotarian Bryan Sumner, event organiser, thanked the sponsors, the players and Ian Wilson, owner of Naunton Downs Golf Club, for allowing Rotary to hold the event.

“Without the generous support of local businesses, and in particular our main sponsor Harrison James and Hardie, this event for the benefit of our local community would not be possible”, he said.

The individual winner was Tom Reeves, from Tamworth, while Andrew Smith was runner up and Roger Mills was third place.

Tina Rose won the prize for best lady golfer on the day and the Clifford & Webb Cup for the best Rotarian score was presented to Will Mustoe.

Club president Phil Randall said: "Rotary is active in our local community and we are delighted to be able to support three such worthwhile local charities."
