THE new Scuttlebrook Queen will be crowned in Chipping Campden this weekend.

Now in its 69th year, the Scuttlebrook Wake is taking place on Saturday, traditionally the day after the Cotswold Olimpicks.

Hannah Pritchard, aged 14, of Chipping Campden School, will be crowned by reining queen and elder sister Katie, before parading with her entourage through the town from Littleworth to the square to start the festivities.

The highlight of the year for Campden starts on Friday evening with the Cotswold Olimpicks which will be opened by the Carnival Queen at 7pm on Dovers Hill and conclude with the Queen lighting the bonfire at sunset.

The sky is then lit up by a spectacular display of fireworks followed by a torchlit procession down the hill to the town square where the Mayor toasts the outgoing Queen before the music begins.

The weekend continues on Saturday with the crowning on the new Queen who will be giving out prizes for the carnival floats and fancy dress contestants.

Children will dance round the maypole and there will be Morris Dancing in the Square before the Street Fair is declared open.

The Scuttlebrook Wake was named after the Cattlebrook or Scuttlebrook which used to flow through Leasbourne until it was covered over in 1831.
