A MAN who bought a second-hand New English Bible at a sale in Moreton three years ago wants to return it to its owner.

Reg Gale, of Redlands Park, Lighthorne, bought the bible for 20p in a book sale in the back room of the pub close to the corner of the busy central crossroads on a Market Day.

"Looking through it at home I was amazed at how well it had been studied," he said. "There are ticks and notes on many pages. The owner's name is written on the flyleaf "Irene M Hartshorn, 1987.

"I've tried to find Irene M Hartshorn so as to return the Bible to her, or her family. No luck so far.

"It will mean a lot to 'someone' I feel in Irene Hartshorn's family to have the bible safely returned."

Inside the bible, there is a photo of a group of seven youngsters with the names Douglas Baker, Len Empringham, Colin Cookson, Arthur Cash, Jesse Richards on its reverse .

There is also a separate 'funny face' drawing named Jane Catherine.
