HOUSEHOLDS and businesses affected by flooding in the Cotswolds can get financial support from the government.

Householders could be eligible for a council tax discount and businesses could qualify for 100 per cent business rate relief for three months, regardless of how long they were flooded at any time between December last year and March.

Small and medium sized businesses might also get financial support to develop and implement business recovery plans.

This could include money towards clean-up costs, materials, and the need for temporary accommodation to enable them to continue trading.

And both householders and businesses can apply for a Repair and Renew Grant to install future flood protection measures in their properties.

Councillor David Fowles, Cabinet Member for Environment at Cotswold District Council, said: “Thankfully, the weather has taken a remarkable turn for the better and the threat of further flooding has receded considerably.

"Nevertheless, considerable damage was done to many businesses and households who are now busy undertaking repairs and we will be doing everything we can to alert them to the various government-funded financial assistance packages that are now available.”
