CHIPPING Norton Town Touncil is holding a special event to honour a highly-respected former mayor who died last year.
The council will be paying tribute to Rob Evans at an invitation-only event tomorrow in the Upper Town Hall and will formally recognise him as an Honorary Citizen of the town.
The 64-year-old, who served on the town council from 1983 to 2011, died last September after a year-long battle with oesophagal and stomach cancer.
Only a few days before his death, he wrote a letter to the town council accepting their request for him to become an honorary citizen for his work in the community.
During that time was mayor in 1995 and served as consort to mayor Gina Burrows in 2006 and 2007.
He also served on Oxfordshire County Council from 1997 to 2005 and was elected West Oxfordshire District councillor for Chipping Norton last May.
