THE Midcounties Co-operative has re-submitted its planning application for the expansion of its food store in Chipping Norton.

The revised plans will significantly reduce major engineering operations and traffic disruptions on Albion Street.

Under the plans, the car park will be changed from the previously planned multi-storey to a single level to lower the impact on adjoining neighbours and reduce the construction period by two months.

The store extension is slightly smaller but the sales and parking facilities will continue to be almost double the current facilities.

Work finally started to extend the store at the end of October and will continue on-site while the plans are being processed.

Ben Reid, chief executive at the Midcounties Co-operative, said: “We have deep roots in Chipping Norton so are determined to keep disruption to the town to a minimum whilst we’re making improvements to the store.

“The proposed scheme is a sympathetic design and layout that sits comfortably within the existing conservation area and respects the historical nature of the town centre.
