A DAY-time road closure is in place near Stow and Maugersbury as essential re-surfacing work is carried out.

Work on the 720-metre stretch of the A436 at Oddington Road between the King George playing fields and the Bledington Road junction started on Thursday and is expected to be completed tomorrow.

Improvements are being made for the safety of motorists as the road is damaged and in need of repair.

The closures will be between 9.30am and 3:30pm, when highway crews will be on site working hard to get the resurfacing done as quickly as possible.

A diversion will be in place using alternative A roads via Stow, Moreton and the A44.

Councillor Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flood, said: "Thank you in advance to commuters and drivers for their co-operation.

“I appreciate that works like this do inconvenience people, but it will make a big difference to road users when it’s finished and the road will be in better condition for years to come.”

Local County Councillor for Stow, Nigel Moor, said, “Locally we’ve been looking forward to this planned new road surface.

“Whilst none of us like the disruption the work causes, we’ll all be glad to be driving on a safer and smoother road.”
