A COUNTY artist has explained the emergence of a mystery model advertising the Evesham Journal after an appeal for information.

Keith Reynolds, from Yorkshire, bought the model online and asked people to explain its connection to this newspaper, whose name which is written on the side of the imitation ivory vehicle.

It turns out that artist Peter Calvesbert is behind the model and he made it based on his honeymoon with his wife Andrea, who was a former news editor of the Journal.

A number of people contacted the Journal following the article appealing for information after recognising the style of Mr Calvesbert, with some even having bought the models abroad.

Reader Peter Davis said: “We also have one of these, which we bought in a street market in Marmaris, Turkey when on holiday.

We have some Harmony Kingdom figurines and recognised the style. We were so surprised to see an advert for the Journal that we had to buy it, in amazement that the Journal could be so well travelled.”

Mr Calvesbert created three versions of the model in 1998 with about 30,000 being made.

“We had been on our honeymoon in 1995 in South Africa so it was based on that,” said Mr Calvesbert, who now runs Harmony Kingdom in Welland. It was about people going on safari and not seeing anyone.

“There’s three different versions of it. One with me driving, one with Andrea and another with a man called Ed.

“Everything I made at the time was a little box with something funny inside. The men tied up were something whimsical. I have quite an unusual style of work and I know a few people do recognise it.”
