PM supports Stow's poppy appeal launch
THIS year’s poppy appeal was launched in Stow at the weekend with the help of the Prime Minister David Cameron.
Members of the Riders Branch, Stow branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) were joined by Mr Cameron on Saturday who was visiting the town.
This year, with support from Taylor & Fletcher, the appeal opened a Poppy headquarters in the Square providing hot drinks and a social hub for the community to meet.
Sarah-Hayley Owen, aged 28, Stow Poppy Appeal organiser, said: "It was great to launch the 2013 appeal with support from The Prime Minister, who was visiting the town.
“Every poppy helps raise the £1.6 million needed by the legion each week to deliver practical help and advice to the armed forces community.”
It is hoped the appeal, which runs until Saturday, November 9, will raised a similar amount to last year’s total of £13,196.
There will be a parade and church service at St Edwards Church on Sunday, November 10 at 10.30am for Remembrance Sunday.
