Crowds flock to Shipston Food Festival
SHIPSTON’S High Street was heaving with colourful stalls over the weekend as people turned out for the town’s first food festival.
Crowds flocked to the town centre for the inaugural Shipston Food Festival on Sunday and enjoyed more than 30 stalls selling produce from the Stour Valley and the north Cotswolds.
Visitors enjoyed artisan food stalls and local beers along with cookery demonstrations from Francis Green, the Cotswold Traiteur, as well as live music.
People took to the festival’s Facebook page to give their support.
Dawn Badger said: “Fantastic afternoon, well done to all involved, we loved it...bring on the next one,” and Emma Cakebread said: “My purse is empty but our tummies and fridge are full with some delicious food tasted and bought today.
Congratulations on a great event!”
Philip Vial, organiser and deputy mayor, said the event was really successful – and even made a small profit.
“We’re absolutely delighted,”
he said. “It was absolutely brilliant.
“There were still people in the town centre at 4pm and stalls were still selling when we were telling them to pack up. It was just a really busy day.
“I haven’t seen that many people in the town centre for a long while.
“It was a lovely day in Shipston.”
Organisers are now gearing up to host next year’s event, with stallholders and volunteers already signing up following on from Sunday’s success.
