Slimmers become swimmers
7:20am Monday 30th September 2013 in News
A GROUP of energetic slimmers from Chipping Campden have raced 30 miles to raise cash for Cancer Research UK.
Twenty people members of the town’s Slimming World group took part in their own Race at Your Place event to raise money on behalf of its fund-raising committee SMILES (Slimmers Making It a Little Easier for Someone) which is supporting the cancer charity this year.
The group’s race was part of a UK-wide event.
Members opted to cover as many miles – either by walking, running or swimming – as they could muster in 90-minute slots at the Shipston Leisure Centre.
Bronwyn Heywood, who runs the Campden group, said: “Taking part in Race at Your Place was great fun and I’m delighted we’ve been able to raise a fantastic £550 for a wonderful charity.”
The group, which meets every Tuesday from 5pm to 7pm, has now moved to Chipping Campden School, in Cidermill Lane.
