Proposals for a new discount supermarket in Chippy
A DISCOUNT supermarket is preparing proposals to build a new store in Chipping Norton.
Aldi is hoping to redevelop the former Highways Depot site at Cromwell Business Park, off Banbury Road, and create 30 new jobs.
The shop, which would be about half a mile from the town centre and any other supermarkets, would cover 1,000 sq ft and have nearly 80 car parking spaces.
Residents will be able to see initial proposals and discuss the plans on Friday, September 27 at the town Hall from 3pm to 7.30pm and the following day at the Methodist Church, West Street from 10am and 2pm.
A spokesman for Aldi said: “We are excited about the prospect of coming to Chipping Norton as we are keen to offer the local community a genuine choice when completing their weekly food shopping.
“We believe the proposed site offers a real opportunity to provide the community with a premium discount food store.
“Delivering an Aldi in Chipping Norton would bridge the gap in the market for a deep discount retailer, with Aldi prices on average between 30 and 40 per cent lower than that of most supermarkets, without compromising on quality”.

- In February last year a plan for a Sainsbury’s on London Road in the town was refused by West Oxfordshire District Council.
