MORE than 150 representatives from the tourism trade in the Cotswolds turned out for the re-launch of the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway (GWR).

Guests at the event on Monday were greeted with coffee in the Flag & Whistle before hearing about some of the special events happening this year.

Visitors also enjoyed a round trip on the line from Toddington to Cheltenham along with a trip to Laverton and back.

Colin Fewell, commercial director, said: "It was a great day. Several were there for the first time and were extremely impressed.

"After all we are part of the tourist trade in Gloucestershire - a county that has so much to offer and there is every reason for visitors to stay a while - not just treat the area as a place to call in to on their way to somewhere else.”

The volunteer-run enterprise is making a come-back following two embankment collapses and a £1million fundraising campaign to repair the line in the past three years.

The railway is running more trains this year and is hosting a full programme of events including an Easter Eggspress service on Monday, April 1 and a Wartime in the Cotswolds weekend on April 27 and 28. For details of all the events and other information visit gwsr.com.
