Yes, something must be done about danger road

VALE residents agree action needs to be taken over a road branded one of the most dangerous in the country.

Adrian Hardman, leader of Worcestershire County Council, called for something to be done about a five-mile section of the A46 Evesham bypass, between Evesham and Beckford, in the Journal earlier this month.

Now those wanting to support Coun Hardman’s campaign for new safety measures on the road have asked what they can do to help.

Juliet Grout, of Greenhill, Evesham, said: “Almost on a weeekly basis, someone is killed or injured on the A46. I know the stretch of road very well. Couldn’t we get signs telling motorists about the number of accident figures?

It should be made into a dual-carriageway or have a barrier to stop the dangerous overtaking.

“I saw the article and thought maybe other people would like to support his concerns but what can we do to support the campaign?”

Coun Hardman, who began his campaign with a letter to Patrick McLoughlin, the secretary of state for transport, said he had received a great response to the article.

“I am delighted people have responded to what we have to say. I have had people email me from the article.

Cyclists have told me they are worried about how dangerous the road is. People using the caravan park have also contacted me. The figures we had don’t record the shunts. This road needs upgrading.”

Figures released show that since July 2010, two fatal and seven serious accidents have taken place on this part of the A46.

“If people e-mail or write to me that would be really helpful,” said Coun Hardman.
