School’s improved report from Ofsted

THERE were smiles all round for a primary school in the Cotswolds after it received an improved report from Ofsted.

St David’s Primary School, Moreton, was given a good report in all categories in a recent inspection carried out before Christmas.

The school in East Street has improved from its previous inspection in September 2010, where it received a satisfactory report.

Lead inspector Marianne Phillips praised the “strong, effective leadership of the headteacher” and said her “clear focus on school improvement is making a positive difference to the way pupils learn and are supported”.

She also praised the teaching, which was “consistently good and often outstanding”

while pupils had “very good attitudes to learning” and their behaviour is consistently good and often outstanding.”

However, it said while teaching is consistently good, not enough lessons are outstanding and mathematics was good in Key Stage 1 but not as strong in Key Stage 2.

Headteacher Faye Hemming said they were absolutely thrilled.

“Every member of staff has worked so hard to ensure the children get a good education,” she said.

“We have focused very much on ensuring each child achieves what they are capable of and the report proves we are on the right track with that.”

Following the last inspection it has been all change at St David’s, with a complete change in curriculum and the conversion to an academy on January 1.

“The children are working on themes rather than individual subjects,” added Mrs Hemming.

“We have lots of visits and visitors coming into school to motivate the children. We have employed a highly regarded maths specialist to help our teachers ensure the way we’re teaching maths is the best way to do it.”
