By-election date set for vacancy

A DATE has been announced for a Shipston by-election following the resignation of former councillor Jonathan Gullis.

Polling for the Shipston ward at Stratford District Council will be held on Thursday, November 29, at the Sheldon Bosley Hub, Pittway Avenue, from 7am to 10pm.

The Journal reported last week that Mr Gullis, who was elected in May 2011 aged 21, had started a teaching job in London and can no longer represent the town.

Due to the timing of his resignation, the by-election could not be held on the same day as the Police and Crime Commissioner elections which would have saved money. The by-election will now cost the taxpayer £5,155.

To be able to vote at the election, residents must either be on the electoral register or have applied to be, by November 14.

The closing date for nominations is noon on November 2. For enquiries call 01789 260208.
