PERSHORE is having a busy summer, with the Riverside Festival on July 14, Midsummer Brass on the 21st and the opening of the Plum Festival on the 28th.
I’d like to congratulate and thank the organisers of each event. Pershore is privileged to have so many people dedicated to entertaining us and the thousands of visitors the events attract.
Speaking of entertainment, Midsummer Brass was outstanding this year. With 27 bands from all over the country, playing at four venues, it really did the town proud. What I particularly liked was the informal atmosphere and friendliness throughout the day. It wasn’t a competition, it was simply about enjoying the music.
And the players seemed to enjoy it just as much as the listeners.
There was something for everyone, from traditional oom pah music to brilliant classics from the shows and deeply thoughtful modern compositions.
This was the third year of the revived Midsummer Brass. Long may it continue to be a fixture in the Pershore calendar.
CHARLES TUCKER, Mayor of Pershore
