Town is dying
11:00am Thursday 17th May 2012 in Letters
SO we have Councillor Dyke sailing off into the blue yonder to promote Evesham and the Vale.
It reminds me of Nero fiddling while Rome burnt.
We have shops in Bridge street and High Street closing every week.
We need a name change from Bridge Street to Bargain Street, it’s nothing but bargain basement shops. We have shops in the arcade closing down faster than we can shake a stick at.
The town is dying due to the greed of councils who have allowed shops to spring up on the outskirts of towns.
We need a carrot and stick approach to win back high street shops.
Lowering the rates would be a good start.
One of the big problems I have heard people say is the car parking charges.
While we have high car parking charges people will shop out of town.
Meanwhile, why do we need a market down the High Street on a Saturday morning, one of the busiest days for the shops in town which takes money away from the community, and which also looks an eyesore to visitors that might come into town.
If the councillors find Evesham is a vibrant town, like I heard one councillor say it was, I suggest they all should go to Specsavers.
