Shocked at the present situation wk28

I was born in Evesham and have lived most of my life in this area having seen many changes for better and worse. I love the history of the wonderful Abbey and remember from my childhood old buildings which no longer exist having been destroyed because they were unsafe.

High Street alone was always busy and we could get everything we wanted from the shops in that area. Now there are so many vacant in that area and the lovely new area in Bridge Street which was built on the site of the Abbey.

My eldest grandson recently visited me and he was shocked at the present situation in the town and so many large businesses so far out of town. When he was a young boy he loved to be taken into Abbey Park and always listened to the bells ringing. One day, after the carillon was played he said very seriously to me “will they play Rudolph the red nosed reindeer”? He loved this area and the history thereof.

I told him that certain people wanted the beautiful tree in the market place removed. He is of the same opinion as I am and was shocked. It has been a joy for elderly people to rest and enjoy the beauty thereof. What is the point of Evesham people collecting money for the statue of Eaves and removing another thing of beauty and usefulness? Eaves statue is a lovely reminder of the history of Evesham. Please keep the surroundings to match Eveshams history and add to the story of Eveshams history, not take it away.

I look forward to seeing more evidence of Evesham history.

Eileen D Keyte, Evesham
