I HAVE read with interest about the Evesham Town Plan.

It clearly took many dedicated people a considerable time to complete.

It was heartening to learn that the magnificent riverside, the need to revitalise the town centre and the importance of developing tourism, were recognised as central issues.

Although the Almonry Tourist Information and Heritage Centre provided picturesque images in the article it was surprising that no mention was made of the urgent need to renovate this wonderful building.

The Almonry could be further developed as the heritage and tourist hub of the town. As a unique building housing a unique museum it already exhibits many artefacts and documents which record not only the history of market gardening in the Vale but also celebrates many other aspects of the history and culture of Evesham.

References were frequently made to the riverside – our “natural assets” and “most beautiful park in the country” – but no mention of the need to prevent housing developments which threaten to blight this exceptional tourist attraction.

I hope that the plan will give councillors the resolve to preserve and develop the cultural and natural heritage of Evesham.
