Sir - Do you remember the old westerns that were all the rage at one time with the waggon train surrounded by the marauding Indians....this is exactly what it feels like for Blockley villagers with the continuing onslaught from Cala Homes. It is a never ending attempt by this company build housing estates on the most picturesque parts of Blockley that are very dear to the residents.
A little while ago they attempted to sell to us how wonderful it would be for the village if they could building their new housing estate on Colonels Piece. On that occasion the villagers held a candle lit meeting outside the village hall in protest when Cala put their display on. Do they get the message ...No! their unmitigated greed is appalling.
Now it is the turn of Little Shoe Broad which is not a brown-field site ideal for building ..it is a beautiful and unspoilt meadowland that forms a lovely entrance to Blockley from the East. It's rich in wildlife...barn owls, kestrels, herons, woodpeckers, muntjac deer plus countless small mammals live and visit there.
It breaks my heart to think of the devastation that Cala Homes will bring to this little corner of the Cotswolds which is loved and enjoyed not just by the residents but also the countless walkers who come and stay and enjoy for a few days. Soon if Cala Homes gets its way Blockey will become yet another concrete jungle...and once we have lost it that is that..it can never return
