I WOULD like to commend the town of Evesham for its hard work on the May 3 and 4 VE Day celebrations.
The town was in full swing to commemorate a very important day in history.
The one place that took my notice was the Red Lion Pub in the town square.
A lot of the local punters were dressed in uniforms and costumes of the Forties, which was brilliant.
The pub had been decorated with memorabilia of the times and it had a distinct flavour of VE Day.
I understand that it was done by customers who worked hard to make it as authentic as possible.
A big thank-you to Mac and his son, Jeff, and Steve who really took on the task and worked very hard to get everyone involved.
To the manager and owner a big thank-you for allowing the customers to participate.
Even the mat at the door to wipe dirty feet was demonstrating the originality of the times when it simply said TROOPS! WIPE YOUR BOOTS.
A wonderful weekend and my respect to all those who helped make it a success.
A very important date to remember... lest we forget.
