I AM dismayed to note the increase of political influence on town council discussions and decisions. While I was mayor andcouncillor I stood as a Conservative.

But never thought or acted otherwise than in the interests of Ledbury.

My interest was in serving the town, and I never even thought I was a Conservative.

Of course, it was different when I stood as councillor on the county council.

The perspective was broader.

But town council matters should be a matter of taking the views of the residents into consideration at all times, coming to a decision and acting accordingly.

I can also say it was a happy time to serve when I did.

Happiness seems to be in short supply now.
