I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree with the sentiments expressed by Ronald Payne regarding adapting to changing retail patterns (Letters, April 16).
It is patently obvious that very many of the redundant shops which give some of the town centre a rather depressing appearance will never again be used for retail purposes.
It is true many of the shops could be converted back into beautiful flats or houses, thereby bringing life and colour back to the Market Square and other central locations.
By the way, it's good to read that Colin Tether has become a councillor. He is a hard-working man of great integrity who has a proven record of getting things done in the town.
