WITH apologies to Colin Tether (Letters, April 16), my understanding from the town plan steering committee was that were were to be five councillors and three public members.

Townsfolk need to see more action here. Nothing is going to happen now until after the elections, then we have the mayoral changeover, then the selection of this steering group, and that will take us into June.

Then they have to get the priorities sorted. There are too many in the town plan booklet, and they need to be seriously shortened.

The towns priorities are:

1. Too many empty shops, the riverside centre in particular

2. Traffic management and parking issues, including charges

3. Town clean up and general litter problems

We suffered with serious disruption through the many months of the Abbey Bridge reconstruction resulting in much loss of business and trade.

We have waited for two years for this town plan to be conducted and now released.

We have to address these important issues before Waitrose arrives here, not waiting for them to resurrect our town.
