AS a regular pedestrian on the town's local footpaths, I am most concerned about the number of cyclists using the footpaths in preference to the roads.
We are expected to either squash ourselves against the wall or step out into the road to allow them past.
On numerous occasions I have politely reminded them that they are cycling on a footpath, only to receive an abusive reply, which is very intimidating, or they do not understand.
On mentioning this issue to someone in authority I was told that it was too dangerous for them to cycle on the road due to the volume of traffic. Never mind the danger to the pedestrians!
On the many occasions I have encountered this there has been very little traffic, and there has been no respect shown to any pedestrians, such as dismounting and walking with their cycles.
Has there been a change in the law which allows cyclists to have priority over pedestrians on public footpaths?
