IT was with total disbelief and incredulity that last Thursday I witnessed Wychavon District Council pass the final planning application by Persimmon Homes without allowing for a small area of land be set aside for a possible future relief road.

They ignored the plain and straightforward argument for a change to the plan by Pershore Town Council chairman, Tony Rowley.

They ignored a well thought out and well presented argument for the change by local Station Road resident, Peter Brookbank.

They poo-pooed the questions given by Councillor Charles Tucker to the Persimmon applicants, whose reply could barely be understood and could offer no real direct reply to anything.

They threw out without any consideration the petition raised by Pershore residents.

I was amazed to see the two Wychavon councillors, Councillor Val Wood and Councillor David Brotheridge, who represent Pershore and both sit on the Wychavon planning committee, put their hands up in agreement to pass the plan.

The large crowd of local residents who attended and stood and sat all around the council chamber booed and shouted at the planning committee's decision.

I was shocked to see the blatant disregard shown by this Wychavon planning committee to the town of Pershore, its town council and the residents of the town

So, good people of Pershore, the workers, pupils and visitors, be prepared in the years to come to be sitting idly in your vehicles as you wait in the queues of traffic right across the town of Pershore.

As you do so, please spare a thought for those of us who had the good sense to see what was to come and blame those who had neither the imagination, the wit or the integrity to prevent it.

Councillor David Annis

Pershore town councillor
