The production of Broadway and Beyond at Malvern Theatres was truly and unforgivably appalling.

The five "dazzling musicians" came on, sat down and performed as if they were simply reading the dots.

With the exception of the keyboard player they had no stage presence whatsoever.

Then the three "all-singing, all-dancing actors" appeared.

The two men had passable voices and energy and up to a point could dance.

The female performer's lower notes were inaudible, she shouted in the middle register and screeched on her high notes. She must have been popping the batteries out of hearing aids all over the theatre.

Several of my neighbours were covering their ears.

The performers must have been aware that after the interval many ticket holders didn’t return. The gaps were noticeable.

Finally, the song selection was poor – no showstoppers from recent shows.

Why was this act ever booked and inflicted on trusting theatre goers?
