THIS is not a "shriek of disapproval" (OpinionJournal, January 29) but a letter of deep concern about the proposed felling of the trees in Broad Street, Pershore.

It should be remembered that we are not talking about a few trees, but eighteen of them according to my count.

To shrug off the felling of these trees as mere "sensible management" seems cavalier in the extreme (you win some, you lose some, we can always plant some more whatever the moaning tree-huggers say).

Controlling the growth of the trees by regular lopping, replacing the raised grating around the base with gravel or some other appropriate material as in other towns and cities – this is surely sensible management.

Please assure us, Pershore Town Council, that no trees will be felled until all other avenues (pun intended) will have been explored.
