I WONDER if the disconnect from Westminster would improve if more power was devolved to Worcestershire/Wychavon.
The two recent decisions which have been made, namely the siting of the new fire station and the Waitrose supermarket in Merstow Green bring this into question.
Why put a fire station in the town on a busy road which would hamper fire engines exiting the town. I agree with Robert C Hale (Letters, November 27) that a site near the A46 would be more sensible.
So what is the real reason behind this decision?
A Waitrose store would be most welcome in the town centre, but the site of the old fire station is most unsuitable.
Is this a desperate measure by the councils involved to show that something is being done to improve the dismal town centre.
If the store is built there it could enter the Guinness Book of Records for the most inaccessible supermarket in the country for deliveries and customers.
If it fails what then?
Why not have a new arts centre which would bring people into the town in the evening.
