HARRIETT Baldwin’s rather panicked announcement in the Journal (November 20) about the proposed reductions in train services to Pershore rather irritated me.

I would like to ask when has any MP ever done anything about Pershore station?

It is a nightmare station with no real parking, no taxi ranks, no public telephone and an extremely limited bus service.

Taxis are very difficult to obtain unless one books at least 24 hours in advance, most do not work in the evenings and not at all during school pick-up times.

Not a good place for a single female having to get off a train at night.

I have been at the station on a number of occasions and witnessed what passengers face when they get off the train at Pershore.

On one occasion a lady who had travelled all the way from California without any problems, arrived to find there was no means of getting to Pershore town centre.

Her mobile battery was flat so we loaned her our phone so she could phone a relative to pick her up.

On another occasion an elderly lady asked the way to Pershore. I directed her explaining that it was rather a long way. She set off walking, but after a while trying to walk the distance she gave up and returned to catch a train out.

Even comedienne Susan Calman took a large portion of her act at Number 8 relating her astonished experiences of arriving at the station, with heavy luggage and finding no means of gaining access to Pershore.

This gained a great deal of amused understanding from the large audience who attended.

When is anything ever going to be done about the unsatisfactory state of railways in this area?

They’re building more and more houses but reducing the train services.

It seems politicians only seem concerned about London, spending billions on HS2. When is anything basis going to done here?

Perhaps politicians are more concerned about little old grannies in London who live in £2 million garages getting about.
