MORETON is expanding.

Whether that is desirable or not depends upon your point of view, but it is a fact.

What Moreton is lacking is a good social centre. The Redesdale Hall is fine in its own way but it has its limitations.

There is one ready-made site for such a centre - the former British Legion building. It has been unoccupied for several years and I have not heard of any plans for its future. It used to be a popular venue for a multitude to social events, including musical evenings, skittles, private parties, dances, as well as British Legion activities. I assume that it is now surplus to requirements so far as the Legion is concerned.

My view is that the town, through the Town Council, should consider purchasing it. It would have to be funded by public subscription and grants where available, but with Moreton's population increasing, I would not have thought that this was beyond the town's means.

Does anyone agree with me?
