MY wife and I attended the Remembrance Day parade and service of worship

at the War Memorial in Evesham after attending our own church earlier.

It was really well done; well attended, perhaps even more so in this special year. The two-minute silence occurred exactly at 11am and on cue with the clock in the bell tower and, wonder of wonders, we could hear what Rev Andrew Spurr was saying, even though we were quite far back down down the grassy verge.

I tried to persuade those involved for several years to use microphones and an amplifier system, even lending them my own small mike and amplifier last year, but this year, complete with generator and a far superior system everybody felt much more involved instead of only being able to watch without hearing the words.

Thanks to the organisers.

Dare I say, it would be even better still if somebody were able to contact a stage-building company to put up temporary platforms in front of the memorial on the sloping grass, enabling those attending to stand on a level with the memorial.

As it is, those beyond the first row or two of onlookers can see nothing as they stand on the grass descending the verge and looking only at the lower back of the person in front. I've had such platforms or stages built in the Country Park for theatre productions.

It would cost a few pounds of the Remembrance Day budget to set up and strike

the staging, but would make Evesham's act of remembrance even better still.

Congratulations to all those, including so many young people, involved.
