YOU report in your September 11 issue the good news that Stagecoach has begun a Sunday service on their route 28 with five Evesham-Stratford return journeys, two of them being extended to Pershore. It replaces the axed 166 service, run by Diamond most recently.

Despite receiving a lesser service than Evesham, suitable appreciation for this welcome development was expressed by Pershore Town Council, as your report makes clear.

Apparently, however, not a word of appreciation from our Evesham politicians.

Concern about local bus services figured among the responses to the Town Plan consultation referred to in your September 18 issue by Andrew Dyke.

When, unusually, a development comes along that goes some way towards addressing those concerns it surely deserves a few words of acknowledgement and thanks from our elected representatives.

Worcestershire County Council had been quite content to discontinue a well-used and popular route.

Curiously, it took Warwickshire to realise the potential of this service.

Equally curiously, it has also taken Stagecoach to realise that potential.

They had previously been content to say there was no Sunday nervice on route 28, which was, of course, literally true.

No mention of the 166 though!

A rival bus company, certainly, but not one providing any competition on that route or that day.
