IN response to the letter from Alan Heeks (Journal, September 18) regarding the commentary on the Tour of Britain, I would like to defend the gentleman in the tower commentating on the race on his own.

He did this voluntarily and did not have a production team behind him feeding him facts, which professional commentators have, nor did he have contact with a helicopter following the racers and keeping track of who was in which position.

Did Mr Heeks expect the gentleman to memorise all the names and numbers of the 100 plus riders to be able to rattle off a string of names in the five seconds of them flying past him?

I found the commentary rather entertaining and laughed out loud at the comment, “I wonder how Evesham will react to the roads being closed?”

Maybe the next time something prestigious happens in Evesham, Mr Heeks will gladly lend a hand with his ‘expertise’ in whatever that is!
