ON behalf of all our blind and partially sighted listeners I would like to say a huge thank you to the people of Pershore who so generously donated to the Pershore Talking Newspaper street collection on Saturday, September 6.

Thanks also to all the volunteer collectors, and particularly to the members of Pershore Rotary Club who joined us on the day to help raise an excellent £334.

The talking newspaper provides recordings of articles from local newspapers to help those who have difficulty reading to keep up with news events in Pershore and the local area.

The paper relies solely on the efforts of its volunteers, who give their time free, and on donations.

We are currently facing a major expense in replacing the boom box players we provide to our listeners free of charge.

This is to be a rolling programme and we have now purchased sufficient to replace all those that were distributed in the first year we went digital.

The feedback from our listeners has been very positive to this new design of player so we are now looking to replace those distributed in the second year.

The money raised by the street collection will help to fund this.

We always welcome new volunteers to help in the production of our paper, and of course new listeners.

If you would like to volunteer or receive the paper please contact Chris Smith on 01386 556167.
